New students (not previously enrolled at IFSB) ages 7-18 years old are asked to contact Deborah Bean, at 208-589-1657, in order to schedule a placement class. 

Youth Ballet and Contemporary Classes

Level 1 (ages 4 and 5)

Tuesdays 2:45 - 3:30 pm

Fridays 10:45 - 11:30 am

This class meets once a week for 45 minutes. Students are introduced to basic coordination and flexibility skills while learning the correct use of the legs and feet, as well as beginning French terminology.  The joy of movement is encouraged.

 

Level 2  (ages 5 to 7)

A-1 Tuesdays 3:30 - 4:30 pm

A-2 Thursdays 3:30 - 4:30 pm

Level A classes meet one hour per week and add a stronger emphasis on technique. The barre progression includes more exercises for placement and strength. The ballet vocabulary is expanded and students begin incorporating musicality into their work.

 

Levels 3, 4, 5 (ages 7 to 10)

Level 3 Mondays and Wednesdays 3:30 - 4:30 pm

Level 4 Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30 - 4:30 pm

Level 5 Mondays 3:30 - 4:30 pm and Wednesdays 3:30 - 5:00 pm (includes Conditioning)

The emphasis on these levels of instruction includes correct body placement and alignment as well as correct execution of barre and center exercises. Within this framework, we encourage students to enjoy the sense of traveling through space, and students learn to differentiate movement for artistic expression. B-level classes meet two times per week.

 

Levels 6, 7, 8 (ages 10 to 15)

Level 6 Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:30 - 6:00 pm

Level 7 Mondays 4:30 - 6:00 pm, Tuesdays 6:00 - 7:30 pm, Thursdays 6:00 - 7:30 pm

Level 8 Mondays 4:30 - 6:00 pm, Wednesdays 4:30 - 6:00 pm, Thursdays 4:30 - 6:00 pm (includes ballet and contemporary)

Students are instructed regarding professionalism with an expectation of consistency, commitment, and focus. Technical work includes multiple turns and batterie. When students are ready, they begin pointe training. Level 6 students attend twice a week but are encouraged to take additional classes; Level 7 and 8 students train three times per week. 

 

Levels 9 and 10 (ages 15 to 18)

Level 9 Tuesdays 4:30 - 6:30 pm (includes contemporary), Wednesdays 4:30 - 6:00 pm (pointe emphasis), Thursdays 6:00 - 7:30 pm, Saturdays 9:00 - 11:00 am

Level 10 Monday 6 - 7:30 pm (includes Pas de Deux), Tuesday 4:30 - 6:30 pm (includes contemporary), Wednesday 6:00 - 7:30 pm (pointe emphasis), Thursday 6:00 - 7:30 pm, Saturday 9:00 - 11:00 am

Men’s class Mondays 7:30 - 8:00 pm

Students refine technique and grow in artistry while learning how to adapt to teachers and choreographers. Classical repertoire is incorporated into classwork to strengthen and expand pointe skills. Students at this level are also permitted to study Contemporary Ballet. Level 9 students are required to take a minimum of four ballet classes per week. Level 10 students are required to take a minimum of five classical ballet classes per week. Advanced levels are encouraged to attend additional ballet classes.
