About Idaho Falls School of Ballet

Idaho Falls School of Ballet was established in 1994 by Deborah Bean after an extensive career dancing with the Harriette Ann Gray Dance Company and Ballet Oregon and teaching in respected training programs.  Graduates of IFSB have gone on to careers with Houston Ballet, Ballet West, Odyssey Dance Theatre, and Central West Ballet. Our dancers have a history of being offered competitive positions at numerous summer training programs including Joffrey Ballet, Ballet West, Ballet Magnificat!, and Oregon Ballet Theatre. Our high school-aged dancers have received scholarships to attend nationally recognized dance programs.  All of our students are given access to our Master Teacher Program, which brings in talented teachers from around the country. This program fosters adaptability and professionalism in our dancers and connects IFSB to the national dance community. The full-time faculty members at IFSB come from diverse backgrounds and are experienced in dance, child education, and joint ergonomics.

"Studying Ballet has been a wonderful experience for me. I have learned patience, perseverance, and the joy that comes from dancing. Idaho Falls School of Ballet has been excellent in providing me with high quality ballet instruction."  - Camille, age 13

"Since I was a little girl, I wanted to be a ballerina. I have been a student at IFSB for 6 years and am well on my way to achieving that goal. I have been taught correct classical ballet technique from staff members and guest instructors who are professional, highly qualified, and encouraging. We are serious and focused in our studies, but we know how to have fun as well. I have gained discipline, poise, balance and confidence. Performances are well put together and are so much fun to participate in. I can't wait to continue my studies as an IFSB student!"

- Tiffani, age 12

The curriculum at IFSB

The Idaho Falls School of Ballet provides a complete education in classical ballet. We teach a traditional sequence of classroom exercises (barre, centre and allegro), which are precisely demonstrated and described using the classic French terminology.

We emphasize correct placement, technique and breathing, as well as emotional expressiveness, musical nuance and the rhythmical characteristics differentiating each type of movement, while providing objective and constructive critique of technique and artistry. Our objective is to transform the human body from its natural state into an expressive instrument of classical grace and strength.
