Youth Ballet, Jazz, and Contemporary Classes
Pre-Ballet (ages 4 and 5)
Tuesdays 2:45 - 3:30 pm or Thursdays 10:30 - 11:15 am
This class meets once a week for 45 minutes. Students are introduced to basic coordination and flexibility skills while beginning to learn the correct use of the legs and feet, as well as beginning French terminology. The joy of movement is encouraged.
Ballet A - 1 and A – 2 (ages 5 to 7)
A-1 Tuesdays 3:30 - 4:30 pm
A-2 Thursdays 3:30 - 4:30 pm
Level A classes meet one hour per week and add a stronger emphasis on technique. The barre progression includes more exercises for placement and strength. The ballet vocabulary is expanded and students begin to incorporate musicality into their work.
Ballet B - 1, B - 2 and B – 3 (ages 7 to 10)
B-1 Mondays and Wednesdays 3:30 - 4:30 pm
B-2 Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30 - 4:30 pm
B-3 Mondays and Wednesdays 3:30 - 4:30 pm
The emphasis on these levels of instruction includes correct body placement and alignment as well as correct execution of barre and center exercises. Within this framework, we encourage students to enjoy the sense of traveling through space, and students learn to differentiate movement for artistic expression. B level classes meet two times per week.
Ballet C - 1, C - 2 and C – 3 (ages 10 to 15)
C-1 Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:30 to 6:00 pm
C-2 Mondays 4:30 - 6:00 pm/Wednesdays 6:00 - 7:30 pm/Fridays 4:30 - 6:00 pm
C-3 Tuesdays 4:30 - 6:00 pm/Thursdays 4:30 - 6:00pm/Fridays 4:30 - 6:00 pm
Students are instructed regarding professionalism with an expectation of consistency, commitment and focus. Technical work includes multiple turns and batterie. When students are ready they begin pointe training. C-1 students attend twice a week but are encouraged to take additional classes; C-2 and C-3 level students train three times per week. All C Level students have the option of enrolling in the Intermediate jazz class (see below).
Intermediate Jazz for C Level Students
Intermediate Jazz Thursdays 7:30 - 8:30 pm
Intermediate jazz will expand movement vocabulary for our ballet trained students. The curriculum will expose students to rhythmic patterns, isolations, improvisation and across the floor progressions. This class will increase endurance and develop student’s ability to confidently adapt to new styles of dance.
Advanced 1A, Advanced 1B and Advanced 2 (ages 15 to 18)
Advanced 1A classes Monday 6:00 - 7:30, Tuesday 600 - 7:15 (pointe emphasis) Wednesday 4:30 - 6:00 pm, Thursday 6:00 - 7:30 pm, Friday 4:30 - 6:00 pm
Advanced 1B classes Monday 4:30 - 6:00, Wednesday 4:30 - 6:00 pm, Thursday 6:00 - 7:30 pm, Saturday 9:00 - 11:00 am (Saturday class includes Pilates)
Advanced 2 classes Monday 6 - 7:30 pm, Tuesday 5:45 - 7:00 pm (pointe emphasis), Wednesday 4:30 - 6:00 pm, Thursday 46:00 - 7:30 pm, Saturday 9:00 - 11:00 am (Saturday class includes Pilates)
Contemporary Ballet Wednesdays 6:00 - 7:00 pm
Students refine technique and grow in artistry, while learning how to adapt to teachers and choreographers. Classical repertoire is incorporated into class work to strengthen and expand pointe skills. Students at this level are also permitted to study Contemporary Ballet. Advanced I levels are required to take a minimum of four classical ballet classes per week. Advanced 2 levels are required to take a minimum of five classical ballet classes per week. Advanced levels are encouraged to attend additional ballet classes and contemporary ballet.
